The original lens came from France, manufactured by Barbier & Bernard. It came to Point Vicente from Alaska where it had been in use for 40 years. The Point Arena Lighthouse was first lit in 1870, but the structure you see today was built after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake destroyed the original. On December 16, 2006, a homecoming celebration for the lens was held at the lighthouse, featuring a parade, free cake and ice cream, and fireworks. They do offer a few tours every year up to the light if you want to see that portion and visit on the right day. From the parking area, you will want to head out on the paved road that will take you to the lighthouse. That is a tough question, but we highly recommend Point Bonita, Point Reyes, and Point Arena as they offer a great experience. All of the lighthouses below are wonderful to visit and have an interesting story to tell. A man who set himself on fire on Friday afternoon outside the Lower Manhattan courthouse where former President Donald Trump’s historic criminal trial is taking place has died, according to police. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the light at Point Fermin was extinguished in 1941. The lens room atop the lighthouse was removed, and it was turned into a lookout tower for spotting enemy vessels. The lighthouse is owned by the City of Los Angeles and managed by Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks.
